Alison was initially drawn to counseling through her passion for social justice, and the ways in which oppression affects the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. She started her career providing support and advocacy to survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Prior to CAPS she worked on an inpatient mental health unit at the local hospital. Alison identifies as a bisexual/queer cisgender white woman. She is committed to the ongoing work of anti-racist practice and to supporting BIPOC students and folks who hold marginalized identities.

Alison's counseling approach is strengths-based, goal-oriented, and grounded in the belief that we all have the capacity to heal. She is experienced in numerous therapeutic techniques, and has recently been training in AEDP, a mindfully based therapeutic approach rooted in attachment theory. Alison delights in her role as a counselor and is looking forward to serving the Cornell community.
